Hello Pauline,
My name is Jennifer. I'm hoping someone can give us some advice. My boyfriend lives in a Condominium Complex in MA and we have lost our Cat, Vinnie. He's six years old and an indoor only cat.
He has been missing since last Wednesday night, July 9th. He slipped out the door when I was leaving last week. He's always very loving and affectionate, but he ran under the neighbor's porch and tried to scratch and bite us. We figured we would let him calm down for a moment and then he was GONE. (which as you can image makes us feel so much more guilty) but he's escaped before and come right back on the porch 5 minutes
later---so we thought this would be no different.
We have posted fliers and looked relentlessly for him in the morning, afternoon and mostly at night. No one in the neighborhood has seen him.
The steps we have taken:
1. We put a trap out on our front porch and covered it with a towel (also stuck a baby monitor outside so we could hear anything!)
2. We put his kitty condo outside and some of Tony's (my boyfriend's) socks.
3. We put our other cat, Kirya out in a kennel cab for an hour--to meow so maybe he would hear her and come home.
4. We've posted fliers all over the condo complex, talked to numerous neighbors (anyone we can!) and contacted the police and local shelters.
The challenges:
1. The condo layout is huge, each house has a porch --which I think would make a great hiding place (underneath the porch). We looked under each porch every night (not an easy feat--but no Vinnie). Then we started to think about really being sleuthy and noticed there is sand under most of the porches. We saw no footprints anywhere, therefore, we know he has not
been under the porches. (the only footprints we've seen are the few when he first escaped).
2. They are building new condos--once again, there is a lot of sand around these new builds and we saw no paw prints.
3. Behind Tony's condo, there is a steep incline and woods. My guess would be that since no one has seen him that he's probably behind the condo in the woods, we put some food in the back last night and it was moved around but not all eaten.
He really fits the scaredy cat profile and since no one has seen or heard him---I'm guessing he's hunkered down somewhere.
It's been a week and we are so afraid we'll never see our cat again.
Any help or advice you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time and for your wonderful website.
Kindest Regards,
Jennifer
PS, I've attached a picture of Vinnie
