My indoor-only cat, Gidget, escaped on Tuesday, May 13th in the evening. She is spayed, is about 1yrs. old, small, and is not declawed. She lived outdoors until she was 10 weeks old, I then brought her indoors and she has been indoors ever since. I live in a residential area with A LOT of underbrush (low growing mountain laurel, fallen trees/limbs, etc.). All of the houses are raised on concrete foundations. Most have a porch and or shed in the back where she could hide. I have searched for her and talked to neighbors/distributed a flyer within about 4 - 5 houses of my house (in every direction). I set her litter box outside (although she does share it with our other cat) and scattered the dirty litter around the outside of the house. I set a trap and have trapped other cats, but not Gidget. I moved the trap to an area with more cover and where we think a neighbor saw her on Monday. I have used canned tuna and her favorite canned cat food as bait. I have tied pieces of my sweaty t-shirt on low lying trees (although now I understand I should probably hang them higher in trees so my scent carries). There are other cats in the neighborhood, some feral. However, she has seen/smelled these cats frequently so I don't think this would pose a threat? There are two small-yip dogs who live next door who are out sometimes (twice a day, am and pm for about 30 min.) I have left the window open so she can smell the house and our other cat. Unfortunately, in the week since she ran off, we have had mostly rainy weather. Any other advice/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

After I read some of the other postings, I realized I might be leaving out some perntinent information about Gidget. She likes to hide (is more likely to sleep under a sofa or bed then our other cat) and sometimes will run away from or appear startled by my husband and myself. She does not like to be picked-up. The night she got out, we basically chased her all around the yard from hiding place to hiding place and even had a hold of her at one time. She managed to slip out of my grasp, but still stayed around. At one point she just disappeared. I put our other cat in a closed room and left the back door (the one she escaped from) open for the next couple of hours. We feed a couple of strays, but she has seen/smelled them on a regular basis, so I don't think she would be afraid of them. We have a shed that a small animal could hide under, and where we found her at one time the night she escaped. I also have placed one of her favorite blankets and pillows outside. I was under our Florida room (again raised with lattice-work and easily accessible by cats), but a few days ago I moved it because I thought this might not be as easy for her to smell or see. It is now outside our house, against the house. Should I cut-up the blanket and place it anywhere she can get to that she might feel safe? I have three places she can crawl under a building. Thanks. Hope this wasn't too long. Julie

Sorry - one more bit of information. Directly across the street (I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so not much traffic) is a man who feeds outdoor cats and two houses from him is another person who feeds the outdoor cats.
