Xena suggested to make this information available here, so I will try to do my best.
Tasso.net
Tasso.net is a charitable German organisation which offers an unique service to people looking for their missing pets. You can register your pet or free and they'll send you a small card with the information of your pet, as well as a tag with their phone number and your pets ID on it.
In case your pet is missing, you can register it as missing on their homepage, which sends out email alerts to volunteers in your region. You can also upload pictures of your pet and order as much search flyers as you want in three different sizes ( DIN A3, DIN A4, DIN A5 - from booksized flyer to small poster. Those random numbers are industry norms for paper size.) for absolutely no cost at all. They offer to send out notices to all people dealing with animals professionally around your area, as well.
They are the largest organisation of its kind and every vet, animal shelter or animal rescue in Germany (and probably some other European countries) will check with them in case they come across a found pet (especially a chipped one).
Now the drawback: The entire homepage is in German and despite looking for a good amount of time, I did not find the option to switch to another language. I will however gladly offer to register pets there for anyone unable to deal with the process, just send me a message.
Update: through poking around, I found that the actual registry form does have a multilingual sheet. Here is the link to it, switched to English already (besides English and German you can also switch to Spanish and - for some weird reason - to Romanian). It may be possible that it's in German for you, but there is an option to switch right beneath the banner, on the right.
Tasso.net - English registry form
and in case hyperlink let's me down:
https://www.tasso.net/online-registrierung
I don't know how far it will take you if you complete the process in English, as I don't want to register a bogus animal with them, but if you encounter any difficulties along the way, just let me know how I can help you.
